Every day we would get a text at what time we were meeting and where are we going, but after that nothing was certain. We could never know if we will be able to get to them that day because of for example road closures, we didn’t know when their stories will make us cry or if the house we will help them rebuild won’t get demolished again. Each and every day was a mystery we wereyet to discover.
If there is one thing that staying in Hebron and working with our grassroots organisation there has taught me, its that listening is key. Letting people who need our help talk about how life under occupation is treating them was heartbreaking but also an eye-opening experience. You could never fake emotions and stories like that as well as love and hope these people were sharing with us for just being there with them and bonding. Every smile and laugh we shared despite the tragic situation was worth its weight in gold and I would do it all again just to see a glimpse of that.
