Together with the Dutch Palestine Committee (Nederlands Palestina Komitee), FFIPP Netherlands would like to invite you to join the conversation with writer, journalist and activist Ahmed Abu-Artema from Gaza.
At the end of January, Ahmed Abu-Artema from Gaza will visit the Netherlands as part of a tour through Europe. Abu-Artema has become known far beyond Gaza as one of the initiators of The Great March of Return – the weekly demonstration along the fence bordering Israel that has caused numerous Palestinian deaths and injuries since May 2018. The Great March of Return is an important grassroots initiative by Palestinians to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza and to demand the right of return of the 1948 Palestinian refugees, a principle anchored in international law. Ahmed Abu-Artema is also a member of the advisory board of the One State Foundation and has written extensively on the concept of a single state and the right of return.
On the 28th of January, after showing video footage of war and daily life in besieged Gaza, we will have a conversation with Ahmed Abu-Artema on how the weekly peaceful protests came into being and how the initiators evaluate the impact of the demonstrations and the damage inflicted on individual protesters. Furthermore, we will discuss what motivates young Palestinians to join the demonstrations and how Abu-Artema sees the prospects of the Great March now that it has recently been scaled back, in connection with his long-term ideas about a one-state solution. There will be sufficient room for questions and discussion at the end.
The event will be in English and admission is free. Please make a reservation through https://dezwijger.nl/programma/ontmoet-ahmed-abu-artema-uit-gaza.
